375: Wholesome Media, the Super Bowl & Msgr. Shea’s Talk w/Chris Bartlett

Chris Bartlett cohosts and shares with Taylor some of the wholesome media he's been watching and Taylor does likewise. They discuss Ted Lasso, Welcome to Wrexham, Everybody Loves Raymond and more borderline family shows.

Then the guys play a long lost Forte game called "Read My Lips." They take turns muting and guessing the Super Bowl themed words that the other is saying and guessing by only reading lips. And of course, they make every word connect with a Catholic concept (many rather loosely lol)

To close the show, they dive into the talk from Msgr. Shea at the FOCUS conference. This talk has swept the nation and seems to really be connecting with people. Chris praises it while Taylor has some mixed feelings about it and questions why the talk worked so well. It's a great conversations that challenges many of both hosts assumptions. We hope you enjoy!

We had our 1st official Forte Catholic retreat and it went great!
Fr. Anthony Sciarappa & Taylor recap the highlights.

A huge thanks to Paul George for getting this set up for us! We gathered at a beautiful ranch in the Texas Hill Country and spent four days praying, celebrating the Sacraments, skeet shooting, drinking, bonding and playing poker. It was the best of being a Catholic man :)

Taylor & Jon haven't talked in a while so they kick off the show by catching up on each other's lives with stories about life, work, sports.

Next, Taylor shares a story he recently heard in a homily that he's heard many times before, but this time he has some questions about it. It involved following Catholic rules(or not), respect for the Sacraments and martyrdom. Prepare for potential controversy(or to be convinced!)

Finally, Taylor recently led an 8th grade boys small group and thought it would be fun if he and Jon answered some of those questions on the show. It led to some fun answers and some more deep conversations.

In the first segment, we ask how saints hear our prayers and do the Forte Five countdown(for the first time in forever!) on the top 5 things Taylor took away from the retreat.

In the second, we are rejoined by one of our favorite guests, Karlo Broussard. He yells silly things and then talks about the best ways to overcome obstacles in sharing the faith. For more from Karlo, check out his book "Prepare the Way" from Catholic Answers.

In the final segment, I talk about my first love of basketball and a spiritual breakthrough I had while playing the game a few days ago.

Episode 34: The Catholic Hipster, Social Media & Retreat Reflections w/Tommy Tighe

The highlight of this episode was our interview in the second segment with Tommy Tighe, the Catholic Hipster. Tommy is a master at using social media and the interwebs(that's what hipsters call it, right?) to build community and share his authentic love for the Catholic Faith. He has multiple projects including podcasts, blogs, a book coming soon and a tremendous presence on Twitter. He is an interesting dude and has a lot of wisdom to share with us on how we can use social media to build the Kingdom.

In the first and third segments, I share some insights into two Scripture stories that connected for me in a big way at my yearly retreat. We will dive in to the story of Lazarus being brought back to life and the Anointing at Bethany story through a new lens.
