I've respected Ryan O'Hara from afar for quite some time now so I was thrilled when we connected to be on each other's shows. In this episode, we talk about his podcast "Better Preach" where he chats with speakers on how they hone their craft of sharing the Gospel.

We also put him to the test with our spur of the moment Catholic talk game called "Freestyle Preaching."

To close the show, Ryan shares his story of becoming foster parents, how that process works and what lessons it has taught him.

351: Battle Mary, Freestyle Preaching & Faith Nostalgia w/ Chris Bartlett

Guest Cohost Chris Bartlett joins Taylor to discuss the frustration of not being given parameters within which to work, how that works when they're invited to speak somewhere & topics they typically don't share about. For example, Taylor doesn't usually speak about Mary because it isn't his strongest topic, but he tests out some new material on Chris to see if he should expand his horizons or stick with the status quo (que High School Musical)

Then, Taylor finally has a worthy challenger for Freestyle Preaching. The guys take turns giving 60 second sermons on the spot where they have to include three random words given to them by their challenger. Can these two guys who have been giving random youth ministry talks for decades rise to the occasion?

Finally, Chris bring up a situation that got brought up in his family in regards to nostalgia. This leads to a conversation about the Care Bears & Taylor has to hold back the tears. Because of the Care Bears? You'll have to listen to the end to find out ;)

Jon Blevins cohosts as Taylor shares stories from a fun ministry trip to Seattle. The stories involve funniest ministry moments, worst biblical pronunciations & Catholics invading non-denominational camps.

They also play one of our favorite games: freestyle preaching. They give each other three random words that they have to include in a 60 second sermon which lead to some great points and good laughs.

Finally, they share some of the "best nuggets" from their real preaching at retreats, youth nights, or conferences. They have both been sharing the Gospel for years and share their favorite insights to speak about.

199: Silly Traditions & Freestyle Preaching w/Fr. Anthony Sciarappa

Taylor and Fr. Anthony Sciarappa both had recent experiences with the Church not keeping up with the times. And we don't mean we want the Church's Traditions to change, we mean we should be able to scan and email something instead of having to deliver a hand copy in person. That kind of thing.

Taylor also shares about his recent experience of returning to Confession and Mass for the first time since the pandemic began and how it wasn't quite what he expected and then game that was created to make Fr. Anthony uncomfortable! Freestyle Preaching is our new game where each host gives the other three random words that they then have to include in a 60 second sermon on the spot. Hilarious! But maybe you can also be inspired? Who knows.

We also rant about people scolding each other in Church, how we've somehow made "like" mean more than "love" as we have gotten older in a really odd way, the Saint who was canonized twice & weddings we went to where we didn't know anyone.
